LUCKY
BLOCKS
ARE NOT RANDOM

I thought I was documenting a Minecraft mod.

I was wrong.

The first mistake was breaking the block.
00 // BEGINNING

THE FIRST THING I NOTICED

I installed the mod normally. Nothing unusual happened. The blocks behaved exactly how I expected them to.

Then I started breaking more of them.

The outcomes started repeating. Not completely. Just enough that I noticed.

01 // THE SCRIPT

THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE INSIDE

I started looking through the script. Most of it looked normal. Events. Drops. Structures. Mobs. Random values.

Then I found references that didn't belong there.

I deleted the reference.

It came back after restarting the game.

02 // INCIDENTS

THINGS STARTED CHANGING

INCIDENT 001
THE WORLD REMEMBERED

I created a new world. Different seed. Different location. Different save.

Something from the previous world appeared anyway.

INCIDENT 002
THE BLOCK KNEW

I stopped breaking Lucky Blocks. I watched one instead.

After approximately two minutes, the block opened by itself.

I had not touched it.

INCIDENT 003
IT FOLLOWED THE PLAYER

I changed worlds again. The anomaly appeared again.

I deleted the mod.

It appeared in another game.

INCIDENT 004
I HEARD IT

There was a sound every two seconds.

At first I thought it was coming from the game.

It wasn't.

03 // CROSS-CONTAMINATION

IT DOESN'T STAY IN MINECRAFT

The strangest part is what happened afterward.

Other games began showing things that resembled the Lucky Block events. Not identical. Similar.

Files appeared where they shouldn't. Text became corrupted. Settings changed.

I checked the Lucky Block script again.

04 // FINAL ENTRY

DO NOT BREAK ANOTHER ONE

I don't think the blocks are generating random events.

I think the events are being selected.

And I think something is selecting them based on the player.

Every time I tried to investigate it, the behavior changed.

It reacted to what I was doing.
